Who Is Your Teacher? Christ or the Bible?

Jesus taught his disciples that they have only one Rabbi, Leader or Teacher, Namely, himself. At Matthew 23:8, Jesus said of himself:

But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.

Yet, what stands today as Teacher to the millions claiming to follow him are other things. Things such a book called the Bible or religious organizations.

That a book has become Teacher can be seen in what people say they are with reference to that book. They say that they are Bible students or that they study the Bible. Well, if one is a Bible student, then the Bible is the Teacher. One is not a student or disciple (taught one) of Christ if they say that they are Bible students or Students of the Bible! The Bible is not Christ! It is a book!

Most persons I encounter will elevate the Bible to the lofty position as a Teacher and even The Word of God rather than say that they are Students of Christ.

The word disciple according to the Oxford dictionary is defined as:

A follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher.

So a disciple is a student or follower of a Teacher!

If one insists that they are students of the Bible, then they are disciples of the Bible and this is not what God and Christ commanded us to be.

Christ commanded us to be his disciples – not disciples of a book or anyone or anything else – and to go out and make disciples or students to him.

Matthew 28:19-20 has Jesus saying:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Notice that the teaching of others is not teaching others what the Bible says but teaching others what he taught. There is a big difference and a very large portion of the world has been misled and blinded; indeed, that is the name of the game!

Most are disciples of a book rather than disciples of Christ.

Look at the two images below. Which one are you in? Remember, Christ said you have only one Teacher.

No one of importance. A disciple (student) of Christ apart from the established religious systems who reasons, thinks and concludes matters for myself. Something is not right with the state of religion in the world. The real dichotomy is that we live in a world so full of religion, yet is an evil, immoral, and dangerous place to live. A mental and spiritual separation from this world that Jesus said his kingdom is no part of is the first step to a "break-through" to freedom and entry into a much larger spiritual world where God and Christ resides and the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God can be accessed.
