Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.(Matthew 5:1-2)
Did You Know?
That some authorities have spent their entire lives studying the origins of names and they believe
that “Jesus” actually means – “Hail Zeus!” For Iesous in Greek means “Hail Zeus.” “Ie” translates as “Hail” and “sous” or “sus” translates as Zeus. The English name “Jesus,” therefore, stems etymologically from “Jupiter-Zeus” the chief god of Olympus.
When do people usually mourn? When they lose someone in death. Or, when someone they love has had a life-changing event such as a serious illness or an accident.
Jesus taught, ” Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
What Jesus taught at that time, the people probably did not understand. They may have thought that Jesus would remove the harsh yoke of Roman authority over them and that would bring them relief or comfort.
Jesus was referring to a time period over the earth in the future where the dead – our loved ones – will be restored to life! Mourning will turn into great happiness!
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (Revelation 21:4)
The coming down of God’s kingdom to the earth will bring comfort to those who have mourned in the past, present, and in the days preceding the coming down of God’s kingdom.
A day will come when there will be no more mourning. Why? Because death will cease to exist. Where does death itself go? Read what Jesus told the imprisoned Apostle John through his angel …
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:14)
