Blessed Are The Meek, For They, Will Inherit the Earth
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.(Matthew 5:1-2)
Did You Know?
That Greek name endings with sus, seus, and sous which are phonetic pronunciations for the chief Greek god of Olympus were attached by the Greeks to names and geographical areas as means to give honor to their supreme deity, Zeus.
King David, long before Jesus, said at Psalms 37:11, “But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
Jesus teaches the crowds – and us today – that the meek will inherit the earth. There is a whole lot here!
Jesus is not teaching about going to heaven. He is teaching about meek ones inheriting the earth! Who are the meek and what earth is Jesus referring to.
The meek ones will be those who will have proven themselves worthy of entry into God’s kingdom when it comes down in the distant future.
No one today is meek. Meekness is will be attached to those resurrected from the dead and who will have gone through Christ’s future 1000-year kingdom over the earth and successfully endured through all of the trials and tribulations after that time to the end. (Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:13, Matthew 24:9, Matthew 24:21, and Revelation 2:10)
Meekness is obedient and loyal to God. Meekness is unpretentious.
The earth that the meek will inherit will be a New Earth or a new government that will reside over the earth forever and will bring everlasting blessings to those in it, including everlasting life. The inheriting does not mean those who reside in it rule over the earth. No, God the Creator of the heavens and the earth will rule. That the meek inherit the earth means that they will be citizens of an everlasting kingdom that will bring them blessings forever.
We see that New Earth mentioned at Revelation 21:1 that is created as a result of the coming down of God’s kingdom to the earth.
