Is The Bible The Word of God?

Those who call themselves Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God. Depending upon which particular group or denomination one belongs to, it is also generally believed that the Father is God, Jesus is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. This is known as the Trinity teaching.

Is it true or false that the Bible is the word of God? Who would one turn to for answers to this question?

It seems to me that since “The Bible” is the acclaimed source of the belief that it itself is the word of God, then it should be from that source that one should turn to for answers.

If indeed, the Bible is inspired of God, then it should be the things written in it that one should accept as truth concerning the subject. It should not be humans and their human agencies (religious organizations) that are to be the final authority on the subject.

If The Most High God and His Son speak through this book (The Word of God), then it should be what first and foremost what God says concerning this book called the Bible. Why would any of us presume to arrogate ourselves to speak what God has not spoken and to believe anything other than what His Son taught us?

If The Bible Is The Word of God, Who Is Jesus?

I have heard TV Evangelists such as Jimmy Swaggart, Pat Robertson, Billy Graham, Creflo Dollar, TD Jakes and many others make the statement that the Bible is the word of God.

I even heard Jimmy Swaggart say that he would live and die for it. So deeply entrenched is the belief that the Bible is the word of God, the book itself has taken on a larger-than-life-idol-like image.

Careful listening to discussions held by those who claiming to be disciples of Christ will find such persons making statements such as “The Bible says this” and “The Bible says that.” Why? Because they believe that the Bible is the word of God. They view “it” as an authority. However, we now have a problem. Who, then, is Jesus?

At Revelation 19:13 we read:

And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. (KJV)

In that Scripture, we are told that Jesus is the Word of God, not a book.

The Most High God makes this statement at Luke 9:35:

And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

John 3:17 says:

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

In each of the instances above one should be able to see that The Most High God sent a person into the world and not a book. This person arrived on the scene many hundreds of years before a book called the Bible did.

I see nothing in Scripture that equates a book that men gave a name to, authorized, made holy and made equal to the Jesus. Yes, they made a book equal to Jesus. How so? They call it – The Bible – The Word of God.

What About 2 Timothy 3:16?

Many use the passage at 2 Timothy 3:16 as proof that a book called the Bible is The Word of God. Is it, though. Let’s first look at that Scripture. It reads this way in the King James Version:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

“All Scripture” from what time frame? When the imprisoned Apostle Paul wrote this letter to Timothy it was around the year 65 C.E. There was no such entity called “The Bible” at that time. There was no book containing 66 smaller books (or 73 smaller books as in the Catholic Douay Bible) in those days.

So one cannot use 2 Timothy 3:16 to say that it applies to a book that did not exist.

So What Really Is The Bible?

Matthew 15:9 says:

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Since the book called The Bible was something that was produced by men as a product of unearthing ancient manuscripts, interpreting and translating them, compiling them into a book, deciding which of those ancient manuscripts would enter into the book, giving the book a name, authorizing the book, making it holy, and calling it the word of God, it is a work of men. It is a compilation of doctrine that the religious system called Christianity uses to teach “the commandments of men.”

Yes, the book called the Bible does contain some sayings of God and His Christ, but the book itself is not the Word of God – Jesus, The Son of God is. (Revelation 19:13)

The Commandments of Men

How is it that the Bible is a doctrine that the religious system called Christianity uses to teach the commandments of men?

It is from this document that men rationalize the teaching that God is three but one – The Trinity doctrine. They use the Bible – their book – to teach millions that the Father is God, that Jesus is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God.

The Trinity teaching sprang from a document called the Athanasian Creed which was written many hundreds of years after Christ. It is of Catholic origin. Yet, the Trinity teaching is a doctrine created by men and it has been tightly associated with The Bible who these persons say is the word of God.

I know many many persons and entire “Christian” organizations who believe that the Catholic Church is Antichrist (from their view) and that it is a False Prophet. Yet, they accept a Catholic doctrine called The Trinity.

So if the reason that the Catholic Church is not of God and is false and Antichristian, then why would they accept as “true” a doctrine that issues forth from this so-called “false” religious organization?

Other teachings such as “The Rapture” and “Eternal Hellfire” are also doctrines that are taught as if from God. But they use the Bible as a springboard to launch these doctrines of men.

The idea is to first convince one that the Bible is the word of God and not to question it. Once this is done, then it becomes an easy matter to fabricate something from that book and sell it as truth.

But the cold hard evidence stands that a book has overshadowed the person of Jesus [the] Christ as The Word of God. This, as I stated earlier, can be seen in the discussions those claiming to be disciples of Christ have. They almost always say, “The Bible says this or the Bible says that” rather than say, “Jesus says this or Jesus says that.” This shows that the indoctrination of the imposter – Christianity – has been largely successful in placing an idol before the people rather than a person. They have stood up another entity – the Bible – and made it equal to The Son of God who is the ONLY Word of God.

Worship of God In Spirit and Truth

John 4:24 has our Master Jesus saying:

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

A spirit is invisible. God is invisible and it is not possible for mankind to see God. (John 1:18, Col 1:15)

Jesus had already stated that he is “The Truth” only way to the Father. (John 14:6)

Our worship to the invisible Spirit (God) must be through this one Jesus [the] Christ. Our worship of the Invisible One must not be through the things we can see, taste and touch, but through that which is unseen. The only thing that qualifies as “unseen” that we can worship The Most High God through is the one who is now invisible himself, Jesus [the] Christ!

Worship of God – and even knowledge of God – cannot be through books. These things can only be had through the one that God sent into the world, Jesus [the] Christ.

Our worship of God involves us wanting to know Him and His Wisdom and Understanding of matters. No book can contain those things. These are with the Father Himself.

To gain access to God’s Wisdom and Understanding is in this way:

And all the things YOU ask in prayer, having faith, YOU will receive. (Matthew 21:22)

It is via prayer to God through His Son that we request and receive His Wisdom and Understanding, not through a book.

Prayer is the most powerful mechanism there is to ask for and receive such things from God. To be noted is that these things do not filter through a book called the Bible.

I have heard many say that God uses the Bible to answer us. This makes no sense. What about when we ask God in prayer? Does that asking go through a book to before it reaches God’s ears? No! Everything – both the asking and the receiving – is through Jesus [the] Christ.

Notice how 1 Corinthians 8:6 reads:

Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

Now apply that Scripture to prayer to God. Notice that “all things” come through” Jesus.

The Most High God will not hear prayers from us unless they are through His Son. Likewise, the Most High God will not send anything directly to us, it will be through His Son; not through a book called a Bible or through other humans or human agencies who presumptuously claim THEY are God’s channel or mouthpiece.

Misled and Deceived My The Religious System

Being deceived has a stronger connotation than being misled. One can be misled by someone or something and the one doing the misleading does not necessarily know that they are leading a person down the wrong path. They think in their minds that they are leading one aright. Thus, one misleading someone could be innocent.

Yet, some or something deceiving others is deliberate and planned as such. All religious agency in the world is engaged in both a misleading and a deceiving work. That means that there are many religious organizations who are misleading millions and do not even know it. They sincerely think their direction is correct. And, there are religious organizations who know that what they are teaching is not true. So by continuing to teach error rather than teach the truth, they are engaged in deceiving.

While from a Scriptural standpoint all of us “no not what we do” so none of us know everything. It is for that very reason that our trust should not be in the knowledge of mankind but in God.

The Prophet Jeremiah says:

Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps. (Jeremiah 10:23)

Matthew says something we all should keep constantly in front of us. It is found at Matthew 15:13-14:

He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.

Would any of us follow a blind man on a journey? Of course not, he will stumble about and us with him. He will take us in a wrong direction. This is an innocent misleading or misdirection.

The religious agencies of the world are blind. They think they can see, but their vision is very dim and not clear and bright as the one Leader of mankind, Jesus [the] Christ.

Religious agency – and many individuals – seek a following behind themselves. They seek to “make a celebrated name for themselves.” While they claim that they are directing individuals to God through Christ, they have cleverly inserted themselves into that mix. They corral men and women into themselves, indoctrinate them, and then claim that indoctrination is a teaching from God through His Christ. The truth of the matter is that what has occurred is men and women being taken prisoner or captive into blind religious agency. The religious agency can then keep them penned in – enslaved – and controlled. They prevent those they have taken captive to come fully before their true Head and Master, Jesus [the] Christ. (1 Cor 11:3)

Religious agency blocks access to the one who knows the way to the Father, the ultimate Giver of life.

The Bible is a part of this great deception.

Common sense should tell one that when Jesus called out his first 12 disciples out of the religious system of the Jews back then, he did not place a book in front them. He places himself before them as their Teacher and Leader. So why are so many placing a book along with religious organization in front of them?

Even after Jesus ascended, we do not read of the Apostles using books to teach Jesus’s teachings? So why do we?

There stands today religious agency, an imposter that claims to be of God and Christ, that stands in a place it does not belong. It has created its own “Golden Calf” or image that reflects it. It is called The Bible.

The Bible is not the Word of God, Jesus [the] Christ is and there is no other and there is no equal to him.

R. Jerome Harris

No one of importance. A disciple (student) of Christ apart from the established religious systems who reasons, thinks and concludes matters for myself. Something is not right with the state of religion in the world. The real dichotomy is that we live in a world so full of religion, yet is an evil, immoral, and dangerous place to live. A mental and spiritual separation from this world that Jesus said his kingdom is no part of is the first step to a "break-through" to freedom and entry into a much larger spiritual world where God and Christ resides and the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God can be accessed.
